Tangier Island, located in the Chesapeake Bay, is part of Accomack County, Virginia. It is a beautiful and historic community, but the island is slowly disappearing. Over the years, Tangier has already lost a large amount of its land due to erosion, sinking land and rising water.
In this video, Moe Sa visits Tangier Island to learn more about its history, meet some of the people who call it home and show what life on the island is really like.
We wanted to share this video because it does a great job showing both the beauty of Tangier and the serious challenges the community is facing. Work is continuing to secure funding and develop plans to help protect and rebuild major areas of the island.
