The Drone and 3D Printing Club: Empowering Future Innovators
Hosted by ESM, the Drone and 3D Printing Club works with homeschoolers across the Eastern Shore of Virginia, with students ranging the age from 11 to 16. The club’s mission is to shape tomorrow’s leaders by providing hands-on learning experiences. ESM teaches the art of building, designing, flying, and experimenting with technology, fostering growth in students’ technical abilities.

A Year of Growth and Achievement
Over the past year, club members have learned the foundations of 3D design and printing. Since ESM also encourages kids to go further, some members have decided to buy their own 3D printers and team up with friends to start small local businesses. They have made sales and also assisted local companies by creating 3D-printed parts they may need; one of those projects was to print a mount for a helicopter unit.

More Than Just STEM
The club isn’t just about technology; it’s about fostering community science among teens and young adults. ESM also encourages confidence in young people. Activities range from drone aerial documentation and sonar mapping to electronics, marketing, and exploring the FAA Part 107 drone pilot certification process. Through these experiences, students are exposed to a wide range of opportunities that can spark future careers and passions.
