Early HydroDrone Seagrass Monitoring
This video captures one of our first prototype runs of the HydroDrone, deployed along the Eastern Shore of Virginia. It was part of the Colpitts Annual Audit Documentation focused on assessing seagrass propagation status and health for Virginia’s subsidy review.
Using a full 360-degree camera mounted on our autonomous HydroDrone platform, developed by Earth Systems Management, LLC, this mission marked a major milestone in our journey—bringing innovative marine monitoring tools to life.

The Beginning of Earth System Management, LLC
This video marks the beginning of Earth System Management, LLC. Created in December 2020 by the original team—recent high school graduates attending college online during the pandemic—it was part of a grant report for the GO VA Region 5 project. The video outlines the vision behind building a marine-focused technology business rooted in the culture and needs of Virginia’s Eastern Shore.
This young team not only produced the video from scratch (despite having no prior experience) but also laid the foundation for what ESM has become today. Every team member featured in the video went on to attend college and continues to work toward their degrees while contributing to the growth of ESM.
Their early effort, which won 2nd place in a Salisbury University startup competition, helped define our mission: retaining young talent, advancing marine technology, and growing a sustainable, Shore-based business.
